The Department of Tourism Region VI is successful in performing its functions during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) according to the letters sent by DOT Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez. The letters meant to express appreciation and gratitude to DOT Region VI Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas as DOT APEC Team Leader and 13 DOT Region VI staff, who worked as information and reception officers, for effectively hosting APEC meetings 2015 in Western Visayas.
Secretary Jimenez cited the hard work and dedication of Director Catalbas and staff in ensuring that all delegates were able to appreciate the tourism offerings of the Philippines.
“We have succeeded in bringing 21 economies and their most important decision makers from the government and business sectors in the Asia Pacific. Our country’s hosting of APEC 2015 went beyond people’s expectations, especially with respect to the conduct of meetings, reception of guests, cultural performances, tours and accommodation among others”, Secretary Jimenez noted.
Director Catalbas considers leading the DOT APEC Committee in Western Visayas a major accomplishment as well as a challenging task as it means higher expectations in the near future.
“This letter means we have set the standard for hosting this kind of event and we are expected to maintain, or rather exceed, our past performance in the years to come. We cannot bear to lower our standards now that we are working to become a primary MICE destination”, Director Catalbas said. She said that APEC is just one of the many international events Western Visayas will host. With the launching of Visit Philippines Again 2016 campaign, the region will surely welcome, assist and host various guests from other countries.
DOT Region VI handled airport reception, cultural presentation, information desks and hosted the tours for the APEC delegates during the APEC meetings 2015 in Bacolod City, Boracay Island and Iloilo City.
