Six proposed trainings are underway including Tourism Awareness Seminar in Bucari, Leon; Eco-guiding Seminar for Northern Antique and the Province of Capiz; Seminar for Tourist Transport Operators, Drivers; Community Kulinarya/Street Food Kulinarya for the Province of Antique and Tourist Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP) Phase I and II for PNP personnel of Guimaras according to the Department of Tourism Region VI Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas.
“Just as we are encouraging our tourism-related and tourism-oriented establishments to be DOT-accredited, we are also raising the standard of the tourism workforce assigned within establishments and destinations. Quality of service is also one of the factors why tourists come and experience Western Visayas first”, Director Catalbas said.
Recently, DOT Region VI in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources 6 conducted Tourism Awareness Seminar for the Community Based Rural Tourism of Bulabog Putian National Park in Dingle, Iloilo attended by DENR personnel, representatives from the different barangays of Dingle, barangay officials and forest rangers.
Director Catalbas explained that tourism development should go down to the grassroots because most of the workforce and raw materials are from rural areas. She added a strong economic activity creates more livelihood opportunities for the community and attracts investors to invest their money.
“This office has only one cause and that is to make the lives of the Western Visayans better through tourism”, Director Catalbas concluded.
