The Department of Tourism through DOT Region VI conducts Child Safe Tourism Orientation and Seminar on June 30, 2016 at Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City.
Child Safe Tourism Program aims to establish policy and practices towards ensuring a protective environment for children in tourism destinations and DOT affiliates with tourism industry partners in making sure active steps of ensuring children protection against exploiters are implemented.
DOT Region VI Director Atty. Helen J. Catalbas urge DOT-accredited tourism operators in Western Visayas and other national government agencies to participate in this activity.
“Tourism brings billions of tourist receipts every year attracting, among others, exploiters to operate. Children are very vulnerable to this modus and it is of utmost importance that we protect our children against these abusers”, Director Catalbas emphasized.
Director Catalbas explained that participants are expected to learn and understand the content and impact of the 7 travel tips in the Philippines, impact of travel and tourism on the protection of children, and ways on how tourism stakeholders and frontliners and other duty bearers can protect and report children’s rights.
“We stand against any form of exploitation, may it be of tourist destinations or children. Tourism is meant to improve lives, not destroy them”, Director Catalbas concluded.
